Lantao Design Academy 2.0
Reshaping a design institute’s brand identity
Focused on the intersection of advanced design thinking and system innovation, Lantao Design Academy empowers creatives through its signature motto: 'Learning Through a Curated Journey'. It serves as an experimental laboratory for future-ready design education.
To celebrate its 20-year legacy while shedding an overly traditional academic image, I led a strategic rebranding aimed at the new creative minds.
My goal was to translate their core values of experimentation and visionary creativity into a lively, accessible brand identity that replaces "academic stiffness" with a vibrant, future-ready energy.
"How might we re-energize 20 years of heritage to capture the curiosity of young creative minds?"
According to the UN Environment Programme's 2021 report, 1.3 billion tonnes of food are discarded globally each year. Food waste is unsustainable now, not just in the future.
“Shed” aims to breathe new life into the food products we discard daily while also raising awareness about this critical issue.
Food Waste Collection
We collected a month's worth of leftovers and began exploring textile design. After drying and shredding the leftovers, we mixed them with agar-agar, glycerin, and water, producing thin, elastic sheets with unique textures and impressive flexibility.
Cook & Stir
These sheets offer an unlimited range of colors, determined by the food used to create them: orange peels produce a stunning amber sheet, while red onion peels result in a vibrant rosy sheet.
Dry the materials
the food waste is rebirthed as a material that can be used to make gloves, caps, furniture, and other accessories. The new material follows the natural course of time and is embodied in the literal definitions of the word shed: natural fall, leaves, or to change human skin. The designers state that by altering the proportions and the kind of food waste used, SHED can be moulded into sheets that resemble leather, vinyl, and resin, and in a different range of colours.
The Shed was showcased during Milan Design Week 2022 at both the Isola Design District and the Miele Experience Center.
